In the previous post we focused on what a FabLab is. In this post we focus on the equipment in the office and discuss why this approach to helps the client. The team at BC3 makes use of a 4x8 ft CNC router, 2x3 ft Laser Cutter, and a 1x1x2 ft 3D printer; vacuum forming table, plasma cutter, water jet and a CNC Milling machine. Each digital fabrication tool has a material specificity and a specific role in the office’s design agenda. With this equipment we expect to make panelized partitions, tables, built-in furniture, light fixtures, hardware, and structural components, to name a few.
Why it helps the client
A design-oriented and process driven studio such as ours seeks opportunities to innovate with each project. Innovation comes in various forms--parametrically generated forms, use of materials in unconventional ways and custom products designed specifically for the project at hand. Each of these circumstances requires substantiation and validation both in the early stages and throughout design development. The rapid prototyping of objects, forms and geometries provides the client with a tangible deliverable to be evaluated.
Our team of architects, interior designers and landscape designers are uniquely positioned to use the most current digital design and fabrication tools to deliver innovative design elements unique to their project.
